Each character will be ranked from 0 to 5 on three stats to give an approximate idea of what they can and cannot do, or do and do not know.
Wealth
For each rank in wealth a character could be considered to be in a different economic band. Their wealth stat gives a suggestion of what they can afford, how easily they can afford it and, sometimes, what they may already have at their disposal.
It is only possible to give a general idea of what is within each Wealth bracket as it varies from location to location. Local information regarding Wealth is posted in it's board. A character can afford things up to their own rank but it may be wise to consider these top purchases thoroughly. Anything in the bracket below is fair-game but not in obscene quantities - below that all bets are off.
0 - The zero is quite literal. Aside from anything they can carry on them, a character with 0 wealth has just that.
1 - With meagre accommodation and little to their name, this is not a glamorous life.
Has enough possessions to get by but nothing fancy.
2 - With stable work under the wing of local security, or perhaps even one's own, this can be a comfortable lifestyle in the right location.
Looking after themselves, maybe with their own ship (if you can call that pile of junk a ship).
3 - Property owners or successful entrepreneurs of an economy, this is where one's hobbies can be a little more indulgent.
Owning their own accommodation, padded out with creature comforts, not too extravagant though.
4 - Diligently hard-working, talented and successful or perhaps just lucky, if happiness can't be bought luxuries can.
Might even live on their very own space station, or a sizeable chunk of land on a rich, connected world.
5 - Filthy rich, there are very few who accumulate this much wealth in one lifetime and lots of people trying to keep track of this level of affluence.
May own just about anything. Even a planet. Maybe.
Repeatedly gaining wealth in-game leads to an increase in a characters stats. Alternatively the player may choose to "spend" some of their gains in order to buy something in the next bracket up (or in the high end of their own), losing that contribution to their stat increase but gaining the shiny thing. It is also possible to save up for something a bracket above your own by being frugal and reflecting this in character. Where ever you wish to do this please contact an Executive GM (who knows, you might have some plot thrown your way).
Tech
This represents knowledge and understanding technology, particularly Old-Tech.
0 - Technophobic, either literally or just through reluctance and confusion. Can probably open an unlocked door.
1 - Enough to get by in a simple life. Even life in the stars can be this basic, albeit with high dependency on others.
2 - More liable to break something than fix it, but with enough know-how to be a little independent.
3 - Could be considered qualified within their field, but not exactly an expert.
4 - Probably an expert, or maybe more of a jack of all trades.
5 - A foremost expert on technology.
Capability
This is more vague than the other stats but roughly sums up physical capability and motor functions, though could include other skills like singing or persuasiveness.
0 - Perhaps victim to the random cell damage of faulty stasis or just chronically clumsy and responsible for smearing jam on the controls.
1 - They know what their doing. But maybe not what everyone else is doing.
2 - A practised and capable individual at ..something. Or maybe just passable at a bunch of stuff.
3 - This provides a skill set with which one can make a living somewhere but maybe not everywhere.
4 - This could be a Jack-of-all-trades or master of one, or somewhere in between.
5 - A master of their art, usually at peak fitness and can probably backflip off a horse or something.
Levelling Up
There are no standard requirements for a level up so each change in stats will be dealt with on a case by case basis. It should be noted that stats can also go down under certain conditions, but we will try to keep this to a minimum as it is just not as fun. Please see the Progress Form for more.
As in reality, progress does not come instantly: persistence and dedication is required to move forward. If, for example, a character is shown to be consistantly earning more than usual in game then their Wealth stat will increase.
If a player leaves a character inactive for a period of time, existing threads can be used as examples and similar behaviour can be assumed to have taken place over time which can be taken into consideration when levelling. However, more active characters have the opportunity to progress more quickly.
